Lexicon/Dictionary

Different dictionary modules

Everyone knows his mother tongue, but not perfectly. A dictionary helps in several ways. It enables us to understand clearly and precisely the meaning of words we are acquainted with but cannot define. It suggests meanings to words we do not know. Often it corrects us when we think we know the meaning of a word but are mistaken. This is a MUST tool for Bible Study.

Here is the work that I made for different dictionary software for Palm OS. If I am right, you can even use the Roadlingua Dictionary modules with your PocketPC.

Bible+ for PalmOS

Bible+ view

I used Tinybible for years with my old Palm Vx. It's a nice little program but only for Chinese Union Version (中文和合本). Recently, I got my Sony Clie PEG-TG50. Among Olivetree BibleReaderAsaisoft Bible Reader and Palm Bible+, I choose Bible+. Not only it is free, it also has lots of feature that fit my study need. In addition, I can make my own bible version into this program. (Maybe this is the reason that it is called Bible Plus.) With this powerful program and 128MB memory stick that I got, now I have 30+ versions of bible translations with me all the time, as well as commentariesTSK cross referenceStrong's LexiconsConcordances etc. For more information about this program, please visit http://palmbibleplus.sourceforge.net.

If you do not have a Palm yet, you can visit my other project: My e-Sword. It is a software package for Microsoft Windows environment. Again, I have Chinese and Greek e-Sword modules made available to everyone.

If you have a Blackberry or Symbian phones, don't despair.  There is a version of Bible Plus for Blackberry and SymbianBible for some models of Symbian phones that can use Bible+ modules through an app.  Please visit here for details.

e-Sword for Microsoft Windows

In the past, I spent lots of money on Bible translations and study tools. They were expensive and bulky to use. Not to mention that I needed two big book shelves to hold these reference books. I also tried different bible softwares for Windows desktop such as The Online BibleThe SwordTheophilosBibleDatabaseQuickVerse, etc., except the very expensive one, but still not satisfy my need especially without other Chinese translations. Recently, I discovered e-Sword Bible software from www.e-sword.net. It is a Free software package with easy installation procedure. Average user should have no problem installing this program. The e-Sword bible software comes with lots of features that I long for.

These features are but not limit to the below mentioned:

  • easy to navigate
  • display your favorite Bible translation
  • logical Bible word/phrase fast search
  • create your own translations lookup
  • zoom and split display area
  • compare all your translations on a selected verse
  • configurable program layout to fit your personal study enviornment
  • mark and/or highlight verses you wanted
  • quick commentary reference
  • bookmark passage
  • create your own Bible reading schedule
  • mouse pointer on Strong's number to display definition
  • Greek, Hebrew as well as Chinese display
  • copy Scripture message in varies format
  • mouse pointer on Scripture dictionary/topical reference display
  • copy Scripture directly from Microsoft Word through Macro
  • create your own notes with integrated Study Note editor
  • built-in map viewer
  • create your own topical lists
  • prayer request and maintenance list
  • STEP reader for viewing various Christian resource
  • plus lots of translations, commentaries, dictionaries, devotional material that can be downloaded from the official website

In addition, I can also make my own modules into e-Sword. With this powerful program, now I have over 20 versions of bible translations on my desktop, as well as commentariesdictionariesmapsdevotion materials etc. With my new Hymn module, I can sing along with my hymn book and even learn new songs with it. It is a complete and free Bible study package and only couple clicks away. For more information about this program as well as support this ministry, please visit http://www.e-sword.net. This website was started on February 2003. It hosted biblical resources such as Palm Bible+, e-Sword and dictionary modules on plain web pages for about 9 months. On April 1, 2004, I rebuilt my website into an online community portal. On February 2, 2005, after 10 months of operations, this website has grown to over 4,000 registered users. It then grew to over 12,000 registered users on this website sharing ideas and resources. On January 2007, due to the rising cost of web hosting, I transferred the website and rebuilt everything from the ground up.

No registration is required to download from this website. My hope is that this material will help you to enrich your time in Scripture and fully understand the Word of God.  Thank you.

God bless!
